How? The new system is set to be simplified, functional, easier and has more filing options.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This comes in the wake of many other GST compliance regulations for MSMEs such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">An increase in GST limit for MSMEs to INR 40 lakhs from the previous INR 20 lakhs.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Providing GST benefits through increased use of UPI-based QR codes in stores.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"p1\">What is GST Returns?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">GST returns are a detailed report of the sales and purchases made along with tax collected or paid.<span style=\"color: #333333;\"> GST return filing <\/span>is generally done either on a quarterly or annual basis. Small business taxpayers (under general circumstances) furnish 3 monthly and one annual return.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Authorities will calculate tax liability based on the filed returns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A registered small business has to file GST returns when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">They purchase or sell products<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Input tax credit against GST paid on purchases<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Provide output GST on sales<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"c-virtual_list__item\" tabindex=\"-1\" role=\"listitem\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"c-message c-message--light\" role=\"document\" data-qa=\"message_container\" data-qa-placeholder=\"false\">\n<div class=\"c-message__content c-message__content--feature_sonic_inputs\" data-qa=\"message_content\">\n<p class=\"p1\">GST return filing online is relatively simple. There are dedicated portals that allow\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bajajfinserv.in\/insights\/10-steps-to-file-your-gst-return-online\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">online GST return filing<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0with GSTIN. The business will also require the Goods and Service Tax compliant invoices to back any data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Online GST filing is an automated system that stores all registered buyers and sellers information. This eliminates the need for separate tax calculations every time. It also keeps a record of one&#8217;s liabilities and credit to allow utilising a certain amount of credit which is already available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"c-virtual_list__item\" tabindex=\"-1\" role=\"listitem\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n<div class=\"c-message c-message--light c-message--hover c-message--adjacent\" role=\"document\" data-qa=\"message_container\" data-qa-placeholder=\"false\">\n<div class=\"c-message__content c-message__content--feature_sonic_inputs\" data-qa=\"message_content\">\n<h2 class=\"p1\">How the new GST Return filing system will help MSMEs?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">Easier Compliance:<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">The introduction of the \u2018upload-lock-pay\u2019 facility last year &#8211; where invoices can be uploaded continuously by the seller and continuously viewed and locked by the buyer, led businesses to upload sales invoices in ANX-1 before the deadline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">MSMEs expect a friendly filing system that caters to the ease of doing business. However, it could be daunting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Creating multiple return options like above will allow small business to complete filing in less time and effort.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It enables the GSTN to sort taxpayers at the source and do better verification of filed returns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Furthermore, there is an option to switch between three quarterly return types at the beginning of the quarter whereas once a year for those switching between monthly and quarterly returns.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\">Easier Payments:<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\">MSMEs registered under the\u00a0MSMED Act, 2006 \u2013\u00a0<i>MSME Samadhaan,<\/i>\u00a0tend to choose quarterly filing of returns, which leads to a delay in the uploading of invoices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The delay affects recipients ITC claims and will lead to a delay in payments to vendors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Under the present system, the sales details are reported after the quarter is over, but the new system encourages uploading invoices at the convenience of the supplier with deadlines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A generous amount of regular reconciliation can avoid any excess tax payment in cash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In conclusion, the new GST return system sets up a foolproof system of reconciliation of details reported by vendors and buyers and hence aiding the technologically ill-informed taxpayers to plain sail through filing compliance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: A recent article by the Financial Express stated that the GST Council will be revising measure to exempt small businesses having a turnover below INR 2 crores from filing for GST returns.<\/p>\n<p>This move came in light of filing numbers falling despite increasing deadlines. Therefore, to reduce compliance burden, the council might increase the limit to INR 5 crores, which will exempt 70% traders from GST filing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">With the simplified processes, businesses must still upload their invoices for the financial year.
