“Think of us as the AirBnB of camping, we are a collective of campsites that you can book and go with your family just like you would a hotel room. Campsites can vary from being a wild space where you pitch your own tent to Glamping sites<\/strong> where every need is catered to \u2013 we have something for everyone no matter what your adventure levels are<\/em>,” Amit Shetty, Co-founder of Camp Monk told us in a conversation.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

T.L.C – Tender Loving Camping<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Camp Monk goes out of the way to ensure you experience nature in its most pristine form. The team has scouted over 100 campsites to check for authenticity of location and will go the extra mile to help you blend with nature without being too invasive.<\/p>\n

“We look for properties that are located in beautiful nature centric locations. <\/span>More importantly, we are focussed on camping because it\u2019s the least destructive form of tourism, we care about the environment and our camping partners extend that philosophy,”\u00a0<\/span><\/em>Amit added.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We asked Amit how they manage to identify the best locations? The answer was pretty simple. “List Your Land.”<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Listing Land with Camp Monk<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Amit highlights, about 60% of land in India is privately owned. Some of them have the best views but no one has access to it because it’s privately owned. And what good is a place if not discovered and appreciated?<\/p>\n

With their “List Your Land” feature, Camp Monk allows you to make a side income from a property that is otherwise just laying empty.<\/p>\n

“Through our \u201cList Your Land\u201d feature we are enabling rural entrepreneurs to start up a campsite on their land and make a secondary income. That, in turn, opens up pristine campsites for nature conscious campers to visit<\/em>!” Amit emphasizes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Customizing Camps<\/h3>\n

What’s more? Camp Monk customizes camping experiences for each camp tour. They even team up with landowners and camping partners to plan life-changing experiences. Amit talks about one such special event:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Pindrop Mystery Camp is<\/em><\/b>\u00a0a monthly mystery camping experience based on discovery and exploration led by Campmonk. We pick an awesome campsite within 2 hours drive of Bangalore and keep it under wraps until <\/em>the camp day. It’s a do-it-yourself sort of camp experience perfect for first timers, kids, pets, family and anyone\u00a0who loves the outdoors.<\/em>“<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the past nine months, Camp Monk has sent 4000 people out camping and worked with about 200 campsite entrepreneurs across South India. By 2019 Camp Monk intends to have a pan-India presence.<\/span><\/p>\n

Camps Didn’t Come Too Easy<\/h3>\n

Camp Monk is accelerated by the Government of Karnataka. While the startup is growing today, things weren’t very dandy for them in the beginning.<\/p>\n

Speaking of a major challenge, Amit said,<\/strong>“Since we\u2019re organizing a relatively nascent market, the concept of camping in India has always been an accommodation option while on an adventure trek or trip. In western <\/em>countries, it is a lifestyle choice to spend time in the outdoors with friends and family on the weekend. Our first challenge was\/is to communicate it to our potential customers effectively<\/em>.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Getting set up quickly was also a need of the hour. That’s where Instamojo stepped in for Camp Monk.<\/p>\n
