Why Should one attain mastery over oneself?

Well, the great quote by Epictetus has conveyed it amazingly and I feel there’s nothing much left for me to explain there. Yes, for you to be a truly free person, void of all banes of life, you need to first master yourself. We all have complications in almost every walk of life. We can’t avoid things from happening to us. But we can certainly decide how we react and respond to those things. And to effectively do that, we need to become masters of ourselves.

Why Mastery?

Things that happen in the world outside hardly affects our inner wisdom. It is how we receive those things that make the difference. All of us wish for peace and happiness but rarely do we even focus on finding the right path to obtain them. We have very little clue on how to manage time, health, work, emotions, wealth and so on. The idea of success is very narrow, and happiness isn’t in its truest form.

Obtaining Mastery is all about knowing why we should become experts in every aspect of life, and how we can yield happiness by constant practice. If our mind knows how to respond to any situation, it will stop acting as slaves of circumstances. Breaking the routine and exploring unknown challenges is the first step to attain mastery. So, start asking questions to yourselves. Because, it is the one witch questions that have the potential to become a master, not the one with answers.
