His movements peak around this week, so expect to have a lot of disturbed nights! From now on your baby may seem to move less because he is growing quickly, and space will be at a premium.
His brain is growing a lot at this time.
His bones are hardening, but in his skull the bones will remain enjoined so they can fit over one another during the journey through the narrow birth canal.
His fingernails may be fully grown.
His fine body hair disappears.
His fine body hair disappears.
The irises in his eyes can now dilate and contract in response to light.
He’s aware of the practice Braxton Hicks contractions that occur in your uterus, even if you don’t notice them.
He weighs about 1.8kg (4lb), but his growth from now on will be considerable, and he may double in size in the next month or six weeks.
Scans of unborn babies from this stage show they sometimes have periods of “dream sleep” although it’s hard to imagine what they’re dreaming about!
He’s surrounded by about 750ml (1 ½ pints) of amniotic fluid, but this will reduce over the next few weeks as he grows.
