Purpose, Passion, and Persistence in Visual Storytelling
with James Wellford - Sr. Photo Editor - National Geographic Magazine

This intense one day editing workshop with the well-known photo editor of Nat Geo Magazine - James Wellford, is suitable for emerging and professional photographers who are working on a long-term story or planning to develop their own story.

This workshop will introduce the participants to visual storytelling and the importance of Communication. James will show examples and discuss process, impact, and purpose. Students can discuss their objectives and show work if they have and explore ideas, motives, and purpose.

The workshop will focus on editing and explore how to shape a story; James will use examples of projects he has worked on and how they have been shaped and ultimately produced in magazines and online as well as in exhibitions and public forums. James will edit students work and begin shaping and developing potential stories. Also, will discuss direction for further work on the stories and discuss objectives that need to be fulfilled.

The workshop discusses on how to present visual ideas, strategies to engage publications and other outlets to show work, building a portfolio and producing a coherent written pitch.
