Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in an ordinary Tamil family of Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. His full name is Abul Pakir Jainulabedin Abdul Kalam. His father Jainulabedin and mother Aashiamma were a simple and religious-minded couple. They held an honourable place in the society and were regarded as an ideal couple. They lived in a joint family.
