Looking to get more customers to shop from your Instamojo online store? Introducing Cash on Delivery (CoD) – a much awaited feature! This will allow you to accept cash from your customers on delivery of products.
Why Indian consumers love cash!
Although digital payment methods have become widely popular and more accessible, cash-on-delivery is still used in the Indian eCommerce.
According to a recent survey, approximately 45% to 50% of the e-retail consumers prefer paying in cash. Also, about 72% of consumers from major cities and 90% from smaller towns choose cash on delivery over any form of advance payments.
This might be because of many reasons such as fear of payment scams, ease of payment, or familiarity with cash payments. It also gives them additional time to fund the full payment.
Advantages of offering cash on delivery to customers
You may see QR codes, UPI apps, and payment links dominate the eCommerce scene in big cities but the case is quite different in rural and semi-rural areas. The reason?
- Fear of payment fraud
- Lack of secure payment gateways
- Familiarity with cash payments
- Insufficient funds in bank account
- Unstable network for online transactions
- Post-purchase order anxiety
- Unavailability of payment cards or UPI
From this, it is clear that offering CoD builds customer trust — When you don’t collect upfront payment before delivering the product, your customers are reassured. They understand your sincerity in fulfilling the order.
Did you know that offering CoD also increases sales? Some consumers may abandon cart at checkout due to the multiple steps. Since the order can be completed quickly if CoD is opted, there is a chance to get more sales.
If your online store is missing the cash on delivery option, there is a high chance you will lose potential customers. So, give your customers a smooth buying experience by providing them a payment method they love!
